The enscriptions on Eko's stick was John 3.05. I remember it being weird that the zero was part of the number, as It couldn't be a scriptural reference with the zero.

Congratulations on making it all the way through the rewatch podcasts. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks to everyone one who was involved. The Black Rock podcast now has a new listener.

Something I've always found intersting is that James is a derivative of Jacob.Jack is a derivative of James. John can be used for Jack. John, Jack and James can be used for Jacob and they have all been leaders on the island.

My wacky theory about Ilana is that she is in the future when Jacob comes to see her in the hospital. The bandages are from the the war that has already taken place on the island. He wants her to go back in time to correct something. Maybe the outcome of the war. Not sure what he's wanting help with. But I do think she's in the future in the hospital.

@Sayid's Girl~
I LOVE THAT THEORY! It may also explaing the gloves on Jacob when he went to see Ilana because of being pushed into the fire after being stabbed (although we would need an explanation for the face being uncovered). And maybe he couldn't touch her because he wasn't in his full form or something. I do like that line of thinking, though. I have thought a few times before that we have been shown scenes in a flash-forward means of storytelling for a reason and that we shouldn't forget that that option still exists.

Curt, I once thought like you about both personages being Jacob. I was thinking that when the Incident. But when I analyzed the conversation, MIB says "It was nice talking to you Jacob" and Jacob replies "It was nice talking to YOU", so an alternative name is "You". :-)

I liked that Matt was saying about the characters and the symbiosis with the island, but I like to take it step further in how they were brought to the island. The physics of magnetism attracts objects to it's source. I wonder if Electromagnetism can attract the consciousness. That would explain why there are lost souls on the island. Some people say when a person dies, the soul lives on. Say the forces of attraction from the magnetism pulls the souls or consciousness to the island. The whispers we hear could be the souls talkings. The oceanic flight 815 seemed to summon the characters of lost the same way the forces of attraction work. But it was Jacob that summoned the characters. Maybe he initiated the attraction.

I'm still not decided on who the good/bad guy is. There's no definitive proof that Jacob is the good guy, and we could think about it in perspective. As both could be acting for the greater good in their own perspective. Just like individuals thoughts are different, Jacob and MIB think that what they are doing is good.

The connection with Star Wars in the third episode, when Anakin talks to Palpatine rings bells, Palpatine explains to Anakin about the Sith, and Anakin explains that the Sith are evil, Palpantine replies, "Evil is a point of view Anakin". So I like that connection to Lost, and everyone's take on perspective.

Take a real life example on a controversial subject of Abortion. Some see it being evil, but some say it should be necessary. The counter view says that it is evil because you are actually committing murder of an innocent being. Then the opposite point says that if a person wasn't capable of raising a child, why should they be forced to, and the result could be a child that knows no boundaries and could be a social menace. There could be huge debate about it, but I hope you see my point.

Yes, there is is duality.

What a podcast!
I didn't miss a single episode, it was exactly what everybody needed during such a long hiatus. Can't believe season 6 is only 2 weeks away, the time really fly fast!

I still like the theory that the whole thing is a feud between two brothers (Jacob vs. Nemesis), about something that happened long time ago, during Egyptian era.

It is a mystery how they don't age, but I hope the writers will explain the agelessness process via Richard. Perhaps they already did, when Ben was judged by the smokey, do you think, maybe smokey made Ben ageless as well?

JayJay said...

From Richards perspective of Locke's visitations to him on the island in 1954, 2004 and 2007, it would seem to him that Locke is ageless as well. Is this a hint?

I too love the podcast, you can me as another new listener for this new season. I'm sorry I sometimes flood the comments page with all my comments, because what I do is I listen to the podcast while I'm on the computer, so it's so convenient for me to express what I'm thinking while I listen. I basically listen to the best ideas and give me view on the subject.

Re: Reset

On the topic of resets, this is my theory. When the Oceanic 815 plane crashes, the Jack we see is not the Jack from the 815 plane. It could be Ajira Jack from 1977. Not only have we threorized about a time reset, but the others/hostiles have shown us that there can be a consciousness reset, remember Ben going to the Temple? He LOST his innocence and some memories. It's possible that Ajira Jack back in the past had an injury, say the incident, Richard finds him semi unconscious and takes him to the Temple to be revived. He resets his consciousness to forget the events of 3 years past and sends him via the temple Donkey wheel to the
future, where he is places him in the bamboo trees and it starts the show off - this theory backs itself up because, we see that anyone who turns the dokney wheel has an injury, Ben (Arm) Locke (Leg), Jack (Cut in the back?). But in saying that, it has opened up my theory one more time. Remember the Dharma video of Chang at the end of Season 4 (I think) with the two rabbits. It's possible that there's a device in the Temple that is similar the the Dharma experiments that cloned the rabbits. Not only did it clone the rabbit, it actually took the rabbit from the past. So maybe the temple ritual took Ben's consciousness from the past (instead of wiping it) and implanted it into Ben's body while the island/Temple heals him, hence he was able to forget certain things, making him disorientated. There's another take on it, in that to heal Ben fully, it could take past Ben and bring him into the future, but I think that's far fetched, as we could see the wounds had to be healed, not like an instant heal, where I could see the bringing past Ben into the future to replace himself.

The cabin is MIB's he held onto the piece of tapestry in his last fight/struggle against Jacob, and has kept it as a reminder of who he needs to kill.

What's in the guitar case? Maybe it's just a guitar. Remember in season one where Locke tells Charlie to look up, maybe Hurley's purpose with the case is to hang it on the branch until Charlie needs it post crash 2004.

I think Bram and Ilana are the folks Jacob was talking about when he said "they're coming". The first scene in the finale spells it out, Jacob summons whoever he wants. All he needs to do is touch them, and they will come. We know Jacob asked Ilana to help him, but I'm not sure he said something to Bram that we have not seen. He wouldn't be referring to Jack and crew, because they are already on the island, but some will argue, they are coming to this point in time, I don't agree with that. They will use Lapidus's body to resurrect Jacob from the cremation.

Hey guys, it's been great fun listening to the rewatch podcasts (Nancy's annoying Kate-hate rants aside).

But I can't get the latest download to work. It just doesn't start, whether I'm using DAP or not. Please please put it up on the Lost Podcasting network. I never have problems downloading them from there. Thanks and I can't wait for the Black Rock season 6 podcasts.

JayJay said...

@Kunal, I always download from talkshoe.com just search for "lostaholics lost rewatch" and you should see all the feeds. I've been doing this because Curt sometimes doesn't post them straight away ;-)

Nancy Drew said...

My Kate-hate rants are annoying??

LOL

Nancy Drew said...

I emailed this to Curt, but thought I'd put it here to see what everyone else thinks.

My Juliet theory + Mobius strip = Curt's Jacob and Nemesis are the same

I'm just going to start by saying, "YES, I know how impulsive and scatter-brained I am!" LOL

Ok, so I'm writing an article for Lostaholics (or trying to) and all of sudden this thought hits me like a ton of mangos! If you consider my theory--Juliet being Tawaret, pregnant with James' child, and gives birth to Jacob--and combine it with your (Curt's) mobius-strip line of thinking, you end up with Juliet giving birth to Jacob and ALSO (using the flip-side of the strip) giving birth to Nemesis. You had said in Tuesday's podcast that you had thought about the possibility of the two of them representing both sides of the same coin, so what if this is the way to explain it? They are pretty representative of a mirror image of each other (assuming one is good and the other evil) and one wouldn't be able to exist without the other. PLUS, Jacob has some personality traits that are very much like Juliet, while the Nemesis has traits that are very similar to James when he was Sawyer--just using this to show that even James and Juliet are somewhat of a mirror image of each other.

I guess it doesn't really explain, though, why BOTH are sitting on the same beach at the same time, but then again, we can't really explain why either are ageless, immortal, or how Richard fits into the picture. But, even though there's nothing to support any of it, I thought I'd throw it out there to you. :)

And I have watched Star Wars.......

I'm not sure if I think you increase or decrease your dosage but... it's got to be one or the other ;-)

As usual, I find Nancy's Juliet-Tawaret-Jacob theory very intriguing. But somehow, I just don't think that Sawyer and Juliet will have such a massive role in the mythology.

They're important characters no doubt, but I doubt they're THAT important...that they're actually the origin of this epic story.

I think the usual contenders (Jack and Locke) will be much bigger in the final season. Claire too will have a bigger role, unless she's already crucial as the mother of Aaron (who I think is gonna be huge). Even Kate will have a big part to play once we learn her REAL role in the endgame.

Don't get me wrong...I love James and Juliet but I can't see them having such pivotal roles in the island's history.

Curt said...

I too feel compelled by the Juliet theory but I also try and temper my expectation by what I think they can accomplish in one season from a practical standpoint. It seems to late to start a new part of the narrative (Egypt). So imo season 6 will have to expound upon what we currently have 1970's, 2004-2007 and BR times. I figure we get enough back story from BR times along with some new twist on 2004-2007 or the 70's.

Kunal said...

I actually am pretty certain that we will get to see ancient times on the island.

The writers HAVE to give us a glimpse of those times after slowly building up this mythology for years with the Statue, the Wheel, the Temple and ofcourse Richard Alpert (who I'm willing to bet is not from the Black Rock but far older...the ship-in-the-bottle was just a red herring lol).

We need a payoff after all that teasing. If we get Richard's backstory, they could easily let us visit those times via flashbacks and yet contain it in a single episode.

Kunal said...

After all, Black Rock time will be around 150 years ago, which IMO is way too recent to explain half the things we've seen or heard about on the island.

I know the writers shouldn't try to explain every thing for fear of ruining the mystery and intrigue, but they really should give us the origins of at least a few things, whether it be Jacob, MIB/Smokey, Temple, Statue or heck, the island as a whole lol.

And for any of those, they'll need to take the narrative back to ancient times, albeit for a short while.

JayJay said...

Are we going to see a staged Ajira flight 316 in the real world? We don't see the others gathering intel on who's on it, we don't hear anyone wanting to go home. It just seems weird. Surely it would be plastered on the news about the second plane gone missing over the Pacific in 3 years. With the same passengers from Oceanic.

JayJay said...

Why is everyone saying that Claire is important? She's been missing for 1 and a half seasons, how can you leave someone so important out for that long. If you say that Claire is important, then why can't you say Charlie is just as important, or even Walt. Has someone read spoilers to know?

Kunal said...

I just have a feeling that she's important, based on 2 things...firstly she's the mother of Aaron, who I believe is special, and not the Walt kind (which led to nothing at all).

Secondly, go back and watch the scene where Locke meets Christian and Claire in the cabin in season 4. Check out that incredibly fascinating smile that appears on Claire's face as she looks back at Christian/MIB. She KNOWS. Everything. The whole game.

And that makes her the ONLY one of our Losties who's actually aware of what the heck's going on between Jacob and Nemesis. She's not a pawn anymore like the rest of the Losties are...she's now with one of the players. If that doesn't make her important, I don't know what can :-)

So it's highly unlikely that they're not gonna give us something more with Claire in the final season.

I would say that an increase is ALWAYS better than a decrease :)

Plus, it might help inspire some more ankh jokes for Season 6. Calling the pharmacy right now...

The file for the show isn't here or on LPN.

Kunal said...

Yeah how strange. I finally downloaded it from Talkshoe.com

Curt said...

I fixed the file, sorry about that but one little typo is all it takes. to break it. After I fixed it I saw it show up in my DL's for both BR, LTN and LPN.

Thanks Curt.
