Heath, Hurley's doctor, Bruce Davidson was in Xmen. He was a senator. You were right the first time.
Now for the next installment of my ongoing debate with Heath on Good picnic/Bad picnic: Let me clarify. I don't think it is the act of the picnic that is bad. I think the mere plan or idea of a picnic may be a curse of sorts, if only in the writers room. Much like in horror movies, the sin factor will cause the slasher killer to come after the sinner next. I think in Lost, if only as a writer's tool, the picnic is a sign of doom. You have to remember that it was the same type of deal with the Charlie/Claire picnic. They planned to have a picnic, "carpe diem". But Des came and dissuaded him from doing that. He did that because he foresaw that Charlie was going to die. If Charlie had gone on the picnic, he wouldn't have died in the Looking Glass. However he probably would have died one of the other ways Des had seen. It's subjective of course. I can claim the mere fact that a picnic was suggested brought the picnic curse down on Charlie. You can claim that through course correction he was going to die no matter what, picnic or no picnic. It's subjective. It reminds me of the parachutist debate. Remember that when Des goes to Naomi's limp body hanging from the tree, he is expecting it to be Penny. He changed Charlie's death by arrow. He believed that changing anything on that camping trip would change the outcome, ie Penny. Many of us wondered initially if the fact that he saved Charlie, changed the identity of the parachutist from Penny to Naomi. Either way, I think these are debates that you can't really prove one way or the other. I guess I just wanted to clarify that I don't think it is the picnic itself that leads to death and disaster. I think it is the idea of it, a curse is caused, for lack of a better term. Either way, I'm burning my picnic basket. I suggest "Amy" do the same. ;)

Curt,
FYI I wanted to clarify that Sawyer quote you mentioned. Given our season five eyes take on the Jacob/Dark Shirt implications of mystical powers and possible religious ones as well I wanted to make sure you didn't think Sawyer said "God", which is what it sounded like you were saying.

Here is the transcript from Lostpedia:
SAWYER: Well, well, now look who had to relocate to the suburbs. [Charlie doesn't respond.] Ain't that just like a woman? She keeps the house and you get the cheap-ass apartment. Man, I thought these people hated me, but I've got to hand it to you -- stealing a baby, trying to drown it -- now, that's a new low. You even made Locke take a swing at you. Hell, that's like getting Gandhi to beat his kids.

I bring it up because I too, am keeping an ear out for any God remarks. We have another one coming up in "SOS".

Bruce Davidson was also in the 1980 made-for-tv movie, The Lathe of Heaven, an Ursula Le Guin story about a guy whose dreams 'affect' the world.

Ghandi... of course. I twisted that in my little head.
