Hey all, it was nice talking just a tad on the show last night. I had a ton more to say, but I had to go... it was real late.
Just one thing, since I didn't hear the whole podcast yet, I wonder if you guys talked about Locke's body as a fake or if that was actually Locke, but there was a channeling through his body to make it appear that it is actually him...
I'll listen to it to see what you said.
the channeling was the "living Locke" walking around the island and stuff...
Hi Curt, been dropping Haikus around the blogs - here's one for you:
Progress:How many trips 'round
this Möbius Strip? Next time
do they get it right?
Curt, since season three I've had the opinion that you've put too much into the question of free will vs destiny. Well, it seems you've been on to one of the main themes in Lost all along. We have now seen destiny kill off free will (right?). Wow. Kudos.
Of course, we haven't seen the end yet; & I doubt free will is gone for good (I sure hope not).

This theory popped into my head and I think it would be a huge surprise, but it's probably crap. Anyway, here goes:
Somehow the 1977'ers have to get back to 2007, and people think it will happen as a result of the Incident.
I had a different idea of how they could go from 1977 to 2007. The only way anyone has been able to move in time so far has been when the Frozen Donkey Wheel was turned. What if Desmond (didn't appear in the finale) somehow returned to the island and turned the FDW right when Juliet smashed Jughead? The bomb goes off and cancels the pocket of energy, at the same time, everyone else gets flashed to 2007, saving them from getting destroyed.
Obvious questions are: What would Desmond's motive be? How did he know about the FDW?
Wow - a Haiku for me? NICE!
Muse - if anything, this episode has showm me how free works back into the equation, it's at the heart of what Jacob is about, his faith in people and their ability to make choices.
All - I'm kicking around the idea that Juliet died when she fell but came back (the gasp, a la Locke) when Jacob got kicked in the fire?
I just know Jacob has a plan, he didn't get all those people just so he could get killed?!
Well, Jacob was kicked into the fire in 2007, Juliet died thirty years earlier. Does that really add up? Do you mean that those two moments are on directly opposite sides of the möbius time strip (if we can talk about different "sides" of that thing)?
But I agree that Jacob knows what he's doing. Even if I sure dont...

Ya know, Curt...Ben just blew Ceasar to smitherines on the Hydra island beach. Maybe he'll be the key to Jacob's reincarnation. But there's also the possibility that when the H-bomb detonated, our Losties in 1977 were sent to their correct time and Jacob was able to take the form of one of them. But after all of that stuff with Miles and not being able to pick up on the vibes from the cremated kid, plus all that stuff about cremation killing the "ka", I can't help but wonder if Jacob is gone forever. Maybe, just maybe...Desmond was about to die in the hospital, but Jacob jumped into him. We didn't see if Desmond was "touched" by Jacob, and if Des is that important to the island, you'd think he would have been. That could be what Desmond's unfinished work for the island is--to be Jacob reincarnated!
Actually, wouldn't it just be completely ironic if the show went in the direction of Jack being Jacob's reincarnation?? We would then have John and Jack in another power struggle--similar to what we've seen in the past.
I don't see how Jacob can be immortal... then not. I know He was in 2007 and Juliet was in 1977 but... hey... it's LOST.
I'm even wondering about the anti-Jacob saying what it took to come back, as if this sort of thing has already happened the other way around, perhaps going back to the Black Rock.
Well, it would seem that something had to have happened to this "enemy" to make him NEED to come back, so I would agree with that. The way he kicked Jacob into the fire, though, made me think of the battle of Horus and Set.
It would also appear as if Jacob and "enemy" are in the same role as Ben and Widmore; i.e. the conversation between Ben and Charles in the Widmore penthouse when it was stated that one could not kill the other (mirror image, maybe?).
.....sigh....I think I've evolved into a StefanyMac-type being.....LOL
These two also are reminiscent of Cain and Abel. (God loves you like he loves Jacob) Like Jacob, Abel was the preferred son by God and when Cain murdered him, he was sent to walk the Earth forever. And it would be fittingly so for these two to be the sons of Adam and Eve with the nicknamed skeletons in the caves.
And if I'm going to delve into Christian mythology in this way, I might as well throw this out there too.......
What if Richard is the "Wandering Jew"? When Jesus was being walked to his crucifixion, he was heckled by an onlooker in the crowd. This person was told that he would walk the Earth until the second coming of Christ.
Dan is almost certainly right. The Statue looks like Sobek the crocodile god 100%. And here's something interesting...Locke's theme on the soundtrack CD of the season 1 is named "Crocodile Locke"!!
Being the die-hard John Locke fan that I am, I'm going to take this as a sign that the real Locke isn't going to be dead forever and could have a special destiny after all...as an island god! :p
@Curt You said, "I just know Jacob has a plan". Don't you know Jacob always has a plan?!?!
@Nancy Your last post freaked me out, because I had just sent off a major feedback via email all about the Biblical comparisons. Be careful about comparing the two of us to each other. Have you learned nothing? The last time you did that you said that I had become "John Locke" to your "Ben". Well we now can see how dangerous and evil that person is. You wouldn't want me to be 'that' John Locke now would you? Sooo, you've evolved into a me type being? Expand on that, go on? Are you plagued by an overload of long feedback instincts? Are you repeatedly and mysteriously locked out of Lostaholics.com by a mystical force mistaken for Jacob, that only now is revealed to be Esau? Or is it simply that you realized you are on post number 4 and counting for this show?
You are infected!!! I am the carrier!!!
LOL Stefany!! Your last email freaked me out because I'm sitting here researching a different angle, and yet coming across everything you brought up. LOL I think we should just stop the opposing forces and become THE FORCE to be reckoned with, hehehee!
.....and yes, it's because I'm on post 4 and counting, hahahaha!
Thanks for being such a great addition this season, to both the website and podcast. Between the two of us, and add in LostLindsey, I think we're giving these boys a run for their "Lost"! LOL
@Kunal:
Of course I'm right! ;)
I'm still very befuddled by Jacob's agelessness too, like Richard Alpert. So that's two confirmed characters who do not age. Is this other anti-Jacob fellow on the beach ageless too? So far we have nothing to indicate that.
@Dan...
My guess would be that, at some point, he's been killed. I'm just thinking that he couldn't have had the ability to become John Locke if he already had a body of his own. But here's a thought.......maybe Jacob MADE Richard ageless (Richard said, "Jacob made me this way") because he defeated this enemy in some way. Maybe immortality was a reward to Richard. And to go along with this: We've speculated that Richard may have come to the island in the Black Rock, so maybe Richard's immortality, the reason why the enemy hasn't been around until becoming John Locke, and the reason the Black Rock is so far inland all of something to do with each other.
Is your next show Monday night or Wednesday night?
@ Nancy-I really like the idea that Richard's agelessness was a reward for helping him with the nemesis. Even though everyone is immediately thinking 'Black Rock', I'm not convinced the ship we saw off shore was in fact our favorite podcast's namesake. I got to thinking about that and realized that in earlier centuries the travel methods in such a remote location were limited to tall sail ships only. Planes and balloons didn't exist. Small boats wouldn't have been seaworthy that far out. Rather than being an easter egg for us, it might simply have been another way to illustrate that this cycle of Jacob bringing people to the island has been going on for centuries.
@ Nancy Drew I love your angle. I think that it was originally Jacob's Cabin however it was used to trap the 'enemy'. The ash was used to trap him in. That is why Ilyana was so spooked when she saw the break in the ash, she realised that he may have escaped. Therefore I am saying that Richard trapped the enemy in there. Therefore everytime we have seen the cabin it has been the 'enemy'. He has always wanted Locke to help him. Christian Shepherd's manifestations are the 'enemy'. Use of a dead body like with Locke.
@Eric I agree with you. I had a ton of feedback about this ep. I decided to send it via email lest the blog EXPLODE!(Since I'm not bomb-happy like Jack)But suffice it to say that I adhere to the black shirted man is 'Esau' theory. I made it into an article at Lostaholics and I expect it will probably be up sometime Tuesday. It's called "The Esau Theory".
@ Stefany Mac, thanks for feedback. I look forward to reading the article.
The pieces are starting to fall into place for a theory cast in early June. We'll try and pull in as many LTN'ers as we can plus our TalkShoe friends.
Curt,
Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to that happening.
Regarding your discussion of Talkshoe, it hasn't been great this year. Maybe you'll find a better/more reliable client for next year.
I know that you enjoy your well deserved hiatus however is there a chance before you disappear of you Dan and Nancy Drew doing a show concentrating on the mythology to date?
