Lostaholics reWatch: s05e01-03
Lostaholics reWatch of ABC's TV show, LOST. The inaugural reWatch podcast hosted by Lostaholics and Nancy Drew along with her old crew from the Black Rock complete with LostLindsey. Also on the scene is The Sargent, our newest member. Collectively we revisit these episodes with season 5 eyes to see if there is any new meaning to be found in these past episodes. This being the end of season it also brings to an end our ability to re-watch with season 5 eyes to a certain extent.

How is it that Inman didn't opening the hatch door? I know some of you guys said in a previous podcast that it was after Inman died. but I don't think so, because Desmond saw Kelvin take of the Hazmat suit, and then knew it was a fraud and there was no need for quarantine, so why would Desmond be wearing the suit now. He didn't need it. It's quite possible Kelvin asked him to answer the door.
There is definitely some wierdness around this whole thing, no doubt.
Well, for that matter.. if he saw Daniel out there without a suit and not infected, why would he have been wide-eyed when Kelvin had a rip in his suit later?
Maybe he thought Daniel was a manifestation of the smoke monster. Here one second gone the next. Hmmmm makes you think people like Harper or Yemi might have been jumping around in a similar way.
Curt, I think you've been spammed, LOL. Also, this is s05 not s04.
It is odd that Desmond felt the need to put on the haz mat suit to answer the door. I'm just going to assume that Kelvin is dead at this point, too.
Maybe Desmond figured that just because the air wasn't contaminated didn't mean that another person couldn't be and decided to wear the suit. He was told about Radzinsky, so maybe he just deduced that it was a sickness that caused him to kill himself. It would also stand to reason that Desmond would also know that wearing that suit, on top of answering the door with a gun, would stun someone if they were trying to cause harm.
Desmond was still taking those drugs way long after he killed Inman, so he probably still believed that there is some kind of infection out there, and especially if somebody knocking on a door, that person might be contaminated...
The only sickness there was, is the monotony of pressing a button every 108mins.
I didn't pick up that Curt had labelled this post a season 4. Haha nice catch Nancy. I find it odd thaty someone is so desperate they would spam a site like this.
So nose bleeds have something to do with how long you've been on the island. I guess Charlotte would have been there for at least 5-7 years, at the other end of the scale, Faraday has only been there a few weeks. That's why he never experienced any nose bleeds. So the island is singling out those who have been there longer and trying to kill them off.
If Locke did end up turning the wheel as Jacob requested then I believe the time skipping would not have happened. I think Ben purposely dislodged the wheel as plan to get back to the island. Which fits in well with the story as Ben always has a plan. But why does Ben want to come back, since he knows the island didn't want him anymore?
I like the discussion about the destruction of the island being the end game. Maybe the reason Jacob/Nemesis don't like technology, because they believe it's the reason the island is destroyed. Something catastrophic cause by technology utltimately destroys the island.
One of those players has already influenced Locke in their plan to destroy all the Dharma hatches, thus ridding the useless technology they don't need. Now if Jack's plan is successful, and Jughead is detonated, it can also provide a means of ridding the island of the Dharma Initiative. I don't believe the island wanted them there, like uninvited guests. Both plans (Locke's or Jack's) is providing the same purpose for the island. Ironically Jack's plan could destroy the island if it is large enough.
In my opinion, the island is the technology, and it represents progress. Nemesis doesn't like progress so he hates anything that represents it (technology). Donkey wheel itself is a sophisticated piece of technology, perhaps even smoke monster is some kind of advanced security system created by somebody in the past.
I wonder if Ms Hawkings has any relationship to Steven Hawkings?
I wonder if Widmore used to be part of the military personel who came to the island. He spoke to Desmond in a flashback about if he had any military training, which spurs him onto joing the royal scots regiment.
Cleaned up the thread, thanks all. A lot of great comments too!
I think I may have to cancel the podcast tomorrow night because of the fact that the episodes are not available for viewing online. I could give everyone ways to watch it illegally, but that would destroy my reputation for being such an upstanding citizen, LOL!!
I feel that ABC's streaming video people are morons for not making season 5 available ahead of the final season's airing. This is precisely the time when you should expect them to want to make these episodes available to take advantage of the flood of advertising revenue that the numbers of people re-watching the show will pull in. If they want to claim that it'll hurt DVD sales to provide a low-quality, commercially interrupted, online streamed episode to re-watch, they will have admitted to possessing an idiot level of intelligence and should look for work elsewhere.
I'm mean no disrespect, I'm just saying that they're stupid. :)
Ok,
1) Dan is completely RIGHT (anti-Lindsey moment) Networks are stupid, in fact make that most executives of any company. Fight the man!
2) Personally I vote for skipping this week due to the impending holiday, family visits, house cleaning etc.
ah darn!
Tom was looking forward to this week of podcast, I told him so much about it! I think hulu has season 5.
So you're not doing a Mythology show this week?
