In the chattoom last night I was saying that Miles wasn't or couldn't tell Chang that he was his father, later I realized that Miles knows what is gonna happen to the dharma folks and to save his younger self he gets his dad to send him and his mother away, again showing in the show that we cause our own pain and suffering!

@Erin:
Good observation. It wasn't plainly stated but it was pretty much repeated at us as if it was.. as if it was.. a.. CENTRAL THEME! Oh my God. We have a CENTRAL THEME... and a character-centric episodes.. AND on-island and off-island FLASHBACKS.

My God.

This is worthy of being a first or second season style of episode! Nice. :)

I think Sawyer's handling of Alpert contributed greatly to his ascending to head of security. It doesn't appear any other resident of Dharmaville is similarly equipped.

On a technical note, personally i'm finding all the typing going on during the podcast quite distracting. It's pretty noticeable making me not want to listen. Just some constructive criticism.

Anonymous,

I will man up and admit that it was probably my typing that was the culprit. I have a mic and earbud combo that I was trying out on this show for the first time. It's hard to hear the problem when you are the one responsible for background noise. But actually Dan said something about it in the chat and I realized it was probably me. When I listened to the show later I could tell that the sound was better after that point. I agree it was distracting. I definately learned a lesson. The Wednesday night show is a community call in. From time to time they have fans like me who are not as well versed on the intricacies of podcasting. Occasionally there are audio problems and breathing noises etc. So sorry and thanks for the constructive criticism. Please don't stop listening on my account.

Hey Guys,

Missed your podcast this week (unfortunately) but I've been thinking about something Miles said/did in Some Like It Hoth.

He basically told the football players father that having the body would be better for his powers.

Yet - in season four - the only flashback of Miles (where he visits the grandmother and gets the money out of the wall) there is no body.

Is this an continuity error, or are they implying that he can communicate even when a body is not present? (he did say to the grandmother that is wasn't as hard as he thought when he returned the extra money).

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

@Anonymous & StephanyMac:
The reason why I became cognizant of the typing at all was because someone complained about it way, way wayyyyy back when we were JUST starting to use TalkShoe. We just had the experience of making those mistakes ages ago. :) No biggy--just something to remember when doing any kind of recording. I eventually learned to use Gizmo's software MUTE more often because of that. Thankfully, my new Dell mini9 has an utterly silent keyboard so I don't even need to mute--but it's still a habit I try to keep, just in case.

@Matt:
Good point! But if I was one of the writers, I'd probably say that Miles was accurate in what he said and that it still worked: It's BETTER for his power. It might not necessarily prevent it from working. They might chalk up better success in the boy's room to the fact that it's his ROOM, where he pretty much lived, surrounded by his stuff.

On the other hand, maybe it DID work for the football player's father and Miles was just being a bit vengeful due to his father issues and was taking it out on that dad and didn't even want his money under the circumstance, now that he was getting a big payout.

Matt,

Yes, good point. He claims he needs to have the body. He seems to be inconsistant on how much of the body he needs...
1)on island he read the bodies from a 4 month old grave of soldiers in 1954 without ever coming in contact with the bodies.
2)he read Danielle and Karl before he unearthed their bodies (I think). And then he uncovered their faces only.
3)He demanded that Kate and co. take him to Naomi's body so that he could find out who killed her.
4)who knows what kind of reading if any he accomplished for the dead football jock.
5)Mrs. Gardner's grandson's body was nowhere to be seen and yet he talked to him and found his stash.
6)In order to read Alvarez (?)on island, he gets out of the driver's seat, goes to the back of the van and unzips the bag doesn't he?
So what are the rules? Does he need a body or not? Does he need access/contact or not?

Ok,...
Here's my perception of the Miles-ability. When we saw Miles in Mrs. Gardener's house trying to read on the grandson, he had that device thingie. It looked like a little dust-buster or something and sounded like it, too. He had it running while he was in the boy's room. He also had it with him when he saw Mr. Gray.

Also, Mr. Gray's son was cremated, so there is no body at all to have a reading on. In Egyptian Reconstructionism, it is believed the Ka (soul/spirit) will be killed with cremation, but it is not forbidden—and during ancient times, was a practice of disposing of criminals who were executed in order for them to be deprived of an afterlife. So maybe because Miles was provided with every bit of Mrs. Gardener's grandson's life/belongings and photos, he was able to detect traces of the kid in the room, but Mr. Gray's kid couldn't be detected no matter what because of the fact that his Ka was killed by fire.

And, based on what we've seen with each reading, I think Miles' abilities improve with the degree of contact with the person. When looking directly at the face, he basically knows all about them. In the case of the bodies from 1954, just walking over them gave Miles a sense of how they died, but no real detail-otherwise the radiation poisoning wouldn't have left him puzzled. Mrs. Gardener's grandson was detected because of his ghost being in the room.

I know this probably isn't the place for this but...
I'm a new convert to your podcast and want to follow along tonight. Does the chatroom open up from the Talkshoe page or is it located elsewhere? I've never used Talkshoe before.

Best quote from tonight's community call: "That's pretty pleasing isn't it?" (35:21)

Thanks for your input and bringing this up on the latest podcast. Ms. Drew - you mention the dustbuster thingy - which I hadn't considered at all. Could that possibly be a device to collect cells left behind by the boy in his bedroom? Perhaps collecting enough to be able to form some kind of connection with the boy?

Thanks again for all of your input!
